DFLUX • DETROIT RESEARCH STUDIO
The mission of DFLUX is to engage the neighborhood and general public with creative actions and workshops and in so doing, reveal or create emergent & sustainable cottage industries. Our first residency session is this summer, in June of 2010, and will culminate with a publication called the DFLUX 2010 JOURNAL, featuring the creative research and actions of our first group of residents.
Using our (now famous) $100 house in Hamtramck Heights / Banglatown Detroit as a meeting point and studio for visiting resident artists and scholars locally and from further afield, we will organize skill-shares and workshops when pertinent and present our research and documentation online at DFLUX.ORG as well as on-site and in-person at our studio.
We will encourage feedback from neighbors and website visitors alike and take action on any suggested ideas that we are able. We hold this exercise as an exploratory, generative and documentary project which is both highly social and very material in nature.
Given that the entirety of DFLUX is site-based and site-specific to great extent, we will seek points of comparison elsewhere, including them as additional nodes within the resultant visible structure. It should be noted that all research and documentation resultant from the project is intended for the greater good of the neighborhood and community at large, and will generally fall under the framework of Creative Commons.
We will likely also raise a few chickens, turkeys, and a goat!
We have received a grant covering our own costs and administration costs for the summer session but need your help in starting a RESIDENCY FUND!
Thank you!
